Motorbike Identification Becomes Compulsory in Mezam Division from November 1

Motorbike riders operating in Mezam Division will be required to undergo identification as administrative authorities intensify efforts to regulate the motorcycle transport sector.

According to a press release signed by the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Mezam, the identification of motorbike riders will become compulsory from November 1, 2026.

The measure follows a clean-up exercise in the transport sector, which authorities say began several years ago, as well as education and sensitisation campaigns targeting motorbike riders.

The decision also follows recommendations from a consultative meeting held on October 5, 2026, between the Minister of Territorial Administration and representatives of motorbike riders’ unions.

   Four documents and items required

The SDO reminded all regular motorbike riders that they must be in possession of four key documents or items:

1. Bike registration documents and number plate

2. A valid driving licence

3. A valid certificate of insurance

4. A jacket homologated by the competent council

The authorities said law enforcement officers will intensify controls beginning November 1. Riders who fail to comply with the requirements will face sanctions in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

Administrative Authorities appeal for cooperation

The Mezam administration is calling on motorbike riders and other stakeholders to cooperate with the authorities to ensure the smooth implementation of the new measures.

The administration says the initiative is aimed at strengthening safety and security within the transport sector and improving compliance among commercial motorbike operators.

The notice was issued by the Mezam Divisional Office in Bamenda and signed on October 8, 2026, by the SDO for Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh.
