The new partnership signed with the Real Estate Corporation will improve connectivity in existing estates and integrate telecommunications infrastructure into future housing projects

Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) and the Cameroon Real Estate Corporation (SIC) have signed a framework agreement aimed at improving access to reliable, high-speed internet in residential estates across Cameroon.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the CAMTEL head office in Yaoundé, bringing together the two institutions in a partnership that seeks to make residential areas more digitally connected.

The deal was signed on behalf of SIC by its Director General, Dr Ahmadou Sardaouna, while Judith Yah Sunday Epouse Achidi, General Manager of CAMTEL, signed on behalf of the telecommunications company.

According to CAMTEL, the partnership will focus on two major areas.

First, the two institutions will work to improve internet connectivity in existing SIC housing estates, giving residents greater access to reliable and high-speed internet services in their homes.

Second, telecommunications infrastructure will be incorporated into future housing projects developed by SIC. This means connectivity will be considered from the design and construction stages of new housing estates, alongside other essential infrastructure such as water and electricity.

The initiative is expected to contribute to the development of more modern and digitally connected residential communities, while supporting families, students, workers and businesses that increasingly depend on internet access for education, employment, communication and economic activities.

CAMTEL says the agreement forms part of its broader efforts to expand digital services into strategic sectors, including housing. It also aligns with the government's drive to accelerate Cameroon's digital transformation and bridge the country's digital divide.

Through the partnership, CAMTEL and SIC will work together to ensure that residential quarters are equipped to meet the growing demand for digital connectivity.

Following the signing, technical teams from both institutions are expected to begin discussions on the practical deployment of connectivity services in existing SIC estates and the integration of telecommunications infrastructure into future housing projects.

The partnership marks another step towards ensuring that housing developments in Cameroon evolve beyond providing shelter to also offering the digital infrastructure needed to support life and work in an increasingly connected society.
