The Paramount Fon of Babadjou, His Royal Majesty Fo Kaffo Sambankeing Langrvin, has rounded off a landmark two-day official visit to his subjects residing in Bamenda, as he marks exactly one year since his enthronement as the traditional ruler of the Babadjou people.

The visit, which spanned from July 4th to July 5th, was the first of its kind since HRM ascended the throne one year ago. It was aimed at reconnecting with the large Babadjou community living in Bamenda, strengthening unity, and reaffirming the cultural bond between the homeland and its diaspora.

The atmosphere in Bamenda was charged with tradition and pride on the first day as the people of Babadjou based in Bamenda, alongside well-wishers and elites from across the Northwest Region, thronged the esplanade of the SDO for Mezam to receive their monarch.

The reception was presided over by the Divisional Officer for Bamenda I Subdivision, Dolingo Diongo, who stood in to welcome the royal guest on behalf of the administration and to officially kick start the manifestations

In a display of rich cultural heritage, several dance groups from the Babajou community residing in Bamenda performed in full regalia, beating drums and singing royal praises as the Fon’s convoy arrived. They were joined by invited dance groups from Bafut and Boyo, whose presence underscored the spirit of solidarity and inter-tribal respect that defines the Northwest Region.

Clad in his royal beads and regalia, HRM Fo Kaffo Sambankeing Langevin acknowledged the cheers and traditional dances with waves and blessings, visibly moved by the turnout. In his closing speech, Fo Kaffo urged the  Babadjou people residing in Bamenda to be law abiding and should choose peaceful coexistence with the people of Bamenda and the North West Region." the Babadjou ruler said. " Today I will be going back in mind that my children are in safe hands due to the warm welcome I have received from the Divisional officer for Bamenda I, the Fons of Bamendakwe, Bambili, Bafut, Akum as well as the City Mayor and the Mayor of Bafut. I hereby urge my sons and daughters to be law abiding and respect the laws enforced so as to maintain the peaceful coexistence and fraternity which are inherent to us." Fo Kaffo concluded.

His Royal Highness Fo Kaffo Sambankeing Langevin was enthroned as the Paramount Fon of Babadjou in September 2024. He is the traditional custodian of the ancestors and the laws and traditions binding the BBabadjou Kingdom.

Speaking briefly to the crowd, the City Mayor to the Bamenda City Council, Paul Achombong , described the visit as "a homecoming of the heart." He noted that in just one year on the throne, the Paramount Fon has prioritized unity, cultural preservation, and the welfare of Babadjou sons and daughters both at home and in the diaspora. " You people are supposed to be happy that our Fon is a young man and has the strength to tour round the ten regions and visit his children and today he is here with us in Bamenda" Paul Achombong told the Babajou people

For many Babadjou subjects in Bamenda, the visit was more than ceremonial. It was an opportunity to present their challenges, celebrate their identity, and receive royal guidance directly from their Fon.

Elders praised HRM for remembering those living outside Babajou, saying the gesture reinforces that "a Fon reigns over all his people, wherever they may be."

Royal watchers say the Bamenda visit sets the tone for HRM Fo Kaffo Sambankeing Langevin’s reign is one anchored on inclusion and cultural continuity. By choosing to mark his first anniversary with his urban subjects, the Fon sent a clear message: development and tradition must walk together, and no subject is too far from the palace.

The two-day program also included closed-door meetings with Babadjou elites in Bamenda, traditional consultations, and cultural exchanges with the host communities.

As the visit came to a close on July 5th, the Babadjou community in Bamenda expressed gratitude and pledged their unflinching support to the throne, promising to uphold the values and unity embodied by their Paramount Fon.

With drums still echoing and royal blessings pronounced, HRM Fo Kaffo Sambankeing Langrvin departed Bamenda to the same royal fanfare with which he was received leaving behind a community re-energized and more connected to its roots.
