The Mayor of Bamenda II Council, Chenwi Peter, has presented the outcome of his recent visit to Canada to the Paramount Ruler of Mankon, Fo F.A.N. Angwafo IV, highlighting a series of development projects expected to transform the municipality and create thousands of jobs for young people.
The briefing session took place on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Mankon Fon's Palace and focused on partnerships secured during the mayor's trip to Canada and plans for major investments in the municipality.
One of the key projects discussed was a waste transformation initiative being developed under a Public-Private Partnership agreement between the council and Global Ventures of North America. According to Mayor Chenwi, experts from the company are expected to arrive in Cameroon on July 17 to begin feasibility studies for the project. Their mission is expected to continue until August 7.
The mayor also presented the Fon with a signed copy of a commitment letter from the company reaffirming its intention to implement the project in accordance with the terms of the agreement signed with the council several months ago.

According to the Fon, waste should no longer be viewed as a problem but as a valuable resource capable of creating jobs and improving the environment.
He noted that transforming waste into useful products would help keep towns clean while creating employment opportunities for young people and reducing the risks associated with irregular migration abroad.
Mayor Chenwi disclosed that the proposed facility would be the first of its kind in Cameroon and only the third in Africa. He said the project has the potential to create up to 15,000 jobs for youths in the North West Region once fully operational.

If delivered as planned, it would become the first firefighting truck to be owned directly by a municipality in Cameroon, significantly improving emergency response capacity within Bamenda II and neighbouring communities.
Mayor Chenwi said the equipment would strengthen efforts to combat the frequent fire outbreaks recorded in recent years and complement the work already being carried out by military rescue units and other emergency services.
The council also revealed plans for a social housing project valued at about 415 million CFA francs. To facilitate the initiative, the mayor requested a parcel of land from the Fon of Mankon for the construction of low-cost housing for residents of the municipality.
Fo Angwafo IV welcomed the proposal and pledged the support of the traditional institution to ensure the successful implementation of the various projects announced by the council.
The meeting also reviewed the condition of roads within the municipality, with participants identifying several roads that require urgent maintenance and rehabilitation.
The discussions reflected the growing collaboration between traditional authorities and local councils in promoting development and improving the living conditions of communities in the North West Region.
For residents of Bamenda II, the projects announced during the meeting represent renewed hope for employment opportunities, improved public services, better emergency response, and enhanced urban development in the years ahead.
