Mayor Mbigha Felix (L), accompanies the Divisional Officer (M) for the kickoff
The 7th edition of the Bamenda I Peace and Unity Tournament officially kicked off on Sunday, July 5, 2026, with focus on the fight against drug abuse among young people.
The tournament, which brings together 18 teams, opened with a match between defending champions Bujong FC and Ayaba FC. Last year, Bujong FC won the championship and entered this year’s competition as the team to beat.
The Mayor of Bamenda I, Mbigha Njah Felix, said this year’s tournament must be guided by strict rules and discipline. He warned that all participants and stakeholders must respect the regulations.
He explained that only canned drinks will be allowed at the venue. Anyone selling drinks in bottles will not be tolerated. He also added that the field is open for business, but must remain orderly and controlled.
The mayor further called on the Divisional Officer to support efforts in fighting drug abuse during the competition, stressing that the safety of young people is a top priority.
Speaking at the launch, the Fon of Bamendakwe, Fon Forchesirri III, warned that drugs destroy the health and future of young people. He urged youths to respect traditional values and the values of Cameroon, saying this is important for nation building.
Another strong message came from the Divisional Officer, Dolingo Ndiongo, who condemned the sale of harmful substances such as sachet whiskey and shisha. He said these products do not help young people in any way.

Organisers say the tournament is not only about football but also about promoting peace, unity, and responsible behaviour among young people in the community.
With 18 teams competing, the event is expected to attract large crowds across the summer holidays while also spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of youth protection.
The 7th edition of the Bamenda I peace and unity Tournament is placed under the patronage of Dr. Taniform Peter.
