Royal Call for Peace as Fon of Nso Unveils Anglophone Crisis Memoir

The Yaounde Regional Council Hall hosted the official launch of a new book by the Fon of Nso on June 25, 2026. Titled The Fon of Nso and the Anglophone Crisis: A Testimony for Reconciliation and Peace, the 173-page memoir shares the traditional ruler's personal experience during the Anglophone Crisis and calls for lasting peace and reconciliation.

The event brought together senior government officials, diplomats, administrative authorities, religious leaders, and more than ten traditional rulers. The Minister of Arts and Culture was represented by the Ministry's Secretary General, accompanied by the Inspector General and other senior officials.

In the book, the Fon recounts his time in captivity after being abducted by armed separatists, alongside others. Rather than seeking sympathy or reopening old wounds, the memoir aims to present a truthful account of what happened, explain its significance, and remind readers that such incidents should never happen again.

Beyond the story of his captivity, the book also provides insight into the traditional enthronement process of the Fon of Nso. It includes messages of solidarity from neighbouring traditional rulers and a special message from the Fon himself, encouraging forgiveness, unity, and peaceful coexistence.

The publication is intended to promote peace, dialogue, and respect for human life among the Nso community, both at home and in the diaspora. It stresses that no matter how difficult a crisis becomes, people should never lose their sense of humanity. The book also highlights that violence cannot provide lasting solutions and encourages all sides to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation.

The launch ceremony featured cultural performances, traditional songs, and drama presentations promoting peace. The Cameroon Youth and Students Forum for Peace (CAMYOSFOP) paid tribute to the Fon before the official signing of the first copy of the book.

Several dignitaries led the official launch, including the representative of the Speaker of the National Assembly, the representative of the Minister of Arts and Culture, Prof. Blaise Jacques Nkené, and the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Basic Education, Asheri Kilo.

To support the publication, the Ministry of Arts and Culture purchased the first ten copies of the book and announced plans to acquire additional copies for the Department of Books and Reading and the Central Library.

The ceremony ended with a message from the Fon's official messenger, who thanked members of the Nso community and all supporters for contributing to the success of the event.

He said the book launch should not be seen as the end of a journey but as the beginning of a renewed commitment to peace, dialogue, unity, and reconciliation.
