Political scientist and public figure Prof. Elvis Ngolle Ngolle has reaffirmed the importance of national unity and reconciliation, aligning his remarks with Cameroon’s broader peace and stability agenda under President Paul Biya.

Speaking on "Inside the Presidency" , hosted by Ashu Nyenty, Prof. Ngolle highlighted post-crisis measures including prisoner releases, Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) programs, and amnesty initiatives designed to encourage former combatants to return to civilian life.

He described these efforts as central to rebuilding trust and strengthening national cohesion, noting that “all those young people who are in the bushes and who have taken up arms should give up the arms and come back to the fold,” adding that reintegration remains essential for lasting peace.

“We still need each other,” he said, emphasizing that national recovery depends on dialogue, forgiveness and collective effort.

Prof. Ngolle stressed that Cameroon’s future must be built on inclusiveness and mutual understanding across communities. “We are not a perfect society. We are not a perfect people,” he said, “but we must deliberately work together, coming towards each other, forgiving each other, correcting each other.”

He also cautioned against division based on identity, urging citizens to move beyond tribal or ethnic considerations in favor of national solidarity. “We must not discriminate based on tribe or ethnicity,” he said.

He defined unity as practical cooperation among citizens, noting: “Unity is that I may not feel good, but you may feel good, and in the spirit of unity, we understand each other and work together so that we all move forward.”

The remarks reinforced what he described as a shared national responsibility to strengthen cohesion, reintegration and peaceful coexistence as foundations for Cameroon’s development.
