It is no longer news that hundreds of individuals went out on the 22nd of May 2026 in what has been known as a protest against the creation of the Mbengwiteghenibi Fondom.
Evidence obtained on the ground clearly shows that people were ferried from other parts of Momo Division and Bamenda to come and take part in a march they know nothing about.
Voicenotes obtained by this reporter shows how separatists activists abroad were sending threat messages to people who are not of Mbengwi to rally and march. Same individuals who tried to make Mbengwi ungovernable in the past have once again shown their ugly heads. In a fight they didn't win in the past, today they want to launch another fight against a preferctoral order that stands for the creation and development of Mbengwi, a course that will totally transform Mbenwgi to the new Dubai, one that will blossom, be prosperous and envied.
Voicenotes have also been obtained showing how the supposed protesters were fighting over money. This already shows clearly that it is pure manipulation, far from anything genuine just to disstabilize a people who genuinely want to forge ahead.
That is why less than 300 people showed up for the protest and only about 5 Fons out of the 35 Fons that make up Meta showed up.
The separatist-activists who have been unable to unite the Fons of Mbengwi and Ku suddenly become traditional architects who now teaches Fons what to do.
It should be recalled that Cameroon is a state of law and traditional chiefs are an auxiliary of the administration. It goes without saying that five Fons who should master the laws of the land, one, amongst them a professor, decided to spearhead a march without seeking due authorisation. Reasons why the SDO of Momo decided not to receive them.
Traditional Chieftaincy in Cameroon is regulated by Decree No 77/245 of the 15th July 1977. On the decree, it states the status of the chief as "The law stripped chiefs of independent sovereign power and designated them as auxiliaries of the administration. They report directly to the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) or Prefect and are accountable to the modern state."
In principle, chiefs are selected from families that traditionally carry out leadership roles. The designation process typically involves the local community and kingmakers, but it requires official validation and appointment by the administrative authorities (e.g., the Governor or SDO). The law also provides specific guidelines regarding the intellectual and physical fitness of candidates.
So was it normal for some chiefs to protest the prefectoral order from the SDO of Momo who is the one who also homologated them to be recognized by the state?
Over 95% of the sons and daughters of Mbengwiteghenibi have been celebrating the creation of the new Fondom. They have expressed their thanks to the Minister incharge of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji for finally recognizing them as a village.
Grouped under the Mbengwiteghenibi Cultural and Development Association, they have promised to ensure that the new village abide by the laws of the Republic, foster development and totally transform Mbengwi to become an Eldorado of the North West.
