The five Catholic religious personnel who were abducted by armed men around Bambui while returning to Bamenda after an ordination ceremony in Fundong have been released.

The group, comprising Brother Huub (MHM), Rev. Fr. Ignatius Nshing (MHM), Rev. Fr. Alex of Mbesa (MHM), and two Reverend Sisters, regained their freedom early Saturday morning after spending several hours in captivity.

They were  intercepted and taken hostage on Friday afternoon while travelling from Fundong to Bamenda, sparking widespread concern within the Christian community and beyond.

The news of their release has been received with relief by family members, friends, and faithful who had been praying for their safety. The religious personnel have since arrived in Bamenda. Although some are said to be in a fragile condition following their ordeal, they are now out of immediate danger.

Brother Huub, a Mill Hill Missionary, is widely known for his contribution to the education and empowerment of thousands of children in the North West Region of Cameroon.
