Businessman and philanthropist Anyele Nesto has donated 250 bags of rice and cooking oil to some internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Bamenda II and those recovering from the crisis, to lessen the burden of hardship.

The donation took place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, and brought relief to many families who do not have enough food to eat. The exercise, held at the Bamenda II Council Hall, attracted hundreds of displaced persons, councillors (for onward distributionat their various constituencies), and local authorities who came to witness the humanitarian gesture.

Speaking during the event, Anyele Nesto said he was touched by the suffering of displaced persons and decided to support them because many families are going through difficult times.

“We are all brothers and sisters. When people are suffering, we must stand by them and support them in any way we can,” Nesto said.

He also called on the people of Bamenda II to continue living in peace, love, and unity despite the challenges facing the community.

“Love and unity are very important for the growth and development of our community. If we support one another, we can overcome every challenge together,” he added.

Nesto explained that the donation was aimed at reducing the burden on vulnerable families, especially women and children who continue to struggle after being forced to flee their homes because of insecurity.

The displaced persons could not hide their joy as they received bags of rice and bottles of cooking oil. Some smiled, others prayed openly for the donor, while many described the support as timely.

One beneficiary, speaking emotionally, said the donation came at the right moment.

“I was already asking myself what my children were going to eat this evening and tomorrow before going to school. Today, God has remembered us through this good brother,” she said.

Another displaced person thanked Nesto for remembering people who are often forgotten.

“Many people hear about our suffering but do nothing. What Engineer Nesto has done today shows that he truly cares about the people,” the beneficiary said.

Bamenda II Mayor, Chenwi Peter, praised Nesto for his generosity and commitment to helping communities across Bamenda.

“For someone to do something like this means he is truly a man of the people,” Mayor Chenwi said.

“He started this gesture in Bamenda I, continued in Bamenda III, and now he is here in Bamenda II. This clearly shows that he has love for the population and understands their pain,” the mayor added.

Mayor Chenwi further described Nesto as more than just an engineer.

“He is not only building structures; he is building hope in the hearts of people. His actions are encouraging unity and bringing smiles to families who are suffering,” he stated.

The mayor also encouraged other elites, business people, and organizations to support displaced persons, noting that many families are still facing hunger and hardship because of the crisis.

As news of the donation spread across Bamenda II, many displaced persons gathered at the council premises hoping to benefit from the exercise. The atmosphere was filled with appreciation as beneficiaries carried bags of rice home.

People described the gesture as important, especially at a time when the cost of living continues to rise and many displaced families have little or no stable source of income.

Responding to the appreciation from the population, Anyele Nesto promised to continue helping vulnerable people in Bamenda II and other communities.

“This is not the end. We will continue to look at the needs of the people and do our best to support them,” he assured.

Nesto ended by encouraging the population to remain united and continue helping one another during difficult times.

“No matter the situation, we should continue to stand together as one people. Together, we can rebuild our communities and create a better future for our children,” he said.

Anyele Nesto’s efforts have continued to earn him praise across Bamenda, with many people describing him as an extremely generous community supporter.
