From Crisis to Hope: Pius Mingo’s Mission to Rebuild Youth Confidence in Ndop

Pius Mukrongho Mingo, Ngoketunjia 1 YCPDM Section President

The YCPDM Section President for Ngoketunjia I in Ndop has emerged as one of the leading voices for peace and youth reorientation in the North West Region of Cameroon. At a time when the region continues to grapple with the devastating consequences of the socio-political crisis, Pius Mukrongho Mingo has positioned himself at the forefront of a relentless peace campaign aimed at restoring hope, unity, and civic responsibility among young people.

Under his leadership, the local YCPDM structure has transformed into a strong pillar of reconciliation and social cohesion, actively preaching and practicing peace throughout Ndop and neighboring communities. Rather than allowing the youth to remain trapped in fear, division, and hopelessness caused by separatist violence, Mingo has consistently encouraged dialogue, tolerance, and active participation in nation-building initiatives.

Born in Bambalang, one of the communities severely affected by the ongoing crisis, Mingo understands firsthand the pain and destruction inflicted on families, livelihoods, and the social fabric of the region. Motivated by his firm belief that “everything dies without peace,” he has dedicated his energy and resources to building bridges among youths and promoting a culture of coexistence. His peace crusade has extended beyond Ngoketunjia I, as he has worked closely with fellow YCPDM presidents from Ngoketunjia II and III to strengthen collaboration and unity across the division.

Beyond speeches and political declarations, Pius Mukrongho Mingo has backed his message with concrete actions that directly impact the lives of young people. In a major empowerment initiative, he provided scholarships and ICT training opportunities to over 80 youths drawn from all 13 villages of Ngoketunjia Division. This initiative was designed to equip young people with practical digital skills capable of opening doors to employment and self-reliance in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Understanding the importance of economic empowerment in sustaining peace, Mingo also introduced fish farming projects for youths using the rich water resources of the Bamenjin Dam. Through these initiatives, many young people have found productive engagement and income-generating opportunities while awaiting broader employment prospects. According to him, empowering youths economically is one of the most effective ways to discourage violence, criminality, and manipulation.

Mingo strongly believes that it is never too late for any young person to rebuild their future and reconnect with society. This conviction has driven his efforts toward the reintegration of disillusioned and vulnerable youths into civic and democratic processes. He has led extensive campaigns across the section to ensure that every eligible young person registers to vote and actively participates in shaping the future of Cameroon through democratic means rather than violence.

His leadership and commitment to the ideals of the CPDM party gained wider recognition when he spearheaded the North West YCPDM initiative that mobilized seven million CFA francs in support of President Paul Biya. During the initiative, he highlighted what he described as key achievements of the Head of State, arguing that continuity in leadership remained necessary for the stability and development of the nation.

Despite his optimism, Mingo has remained vocal about the devastating impact of the crisis on the North West Region. He frequently speaks about the tragic loss of talented young people, broken homes, disrupted education, economic decline, and the psychological trauma endured by thousands of families. He maintains that although peace is gradually returning, the process of healing and reconstruction will take decades of collective effort and sacrifice.

Apart from his political engagements, Pius Mukrongho Mingo is widely recognized as a finance expert, businessman, school proprietor, and finance inspector at FECAFOOT for Ngoketunjia Division. He has also contributed immensely to the promotion of sports in the area by donating numerous trophies and supporting local competitions aimed at keeping young people active, united, and inspired.

For Mingo, the energy of the youth must never again be directed toward violence and destruction. Instead, he believes it should be redirected into productive sectors such as technology, agriculture, fishing, sports, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement. His message to the younger generation remains clear and consistent: Cameroon is their only home, and the peace gradually being restored should never be sacrificed for temporary gains, no matter the temptation.

Through his actions, advocacy, and unwavering dedication, Pius Mukrongho Mingo continues to embody a vision of hope, resilience, and responsible youth leadership in one of Cameroon’s most challenging periods.
