The peaceful town of Njinikom in Boyo Division joined the rest of Cameroon in commemorating the May 20 National Unity Day with celebrations marked by patriotism, solidarity, and strong community participation.
Nestled in the hills of the North West Region, Njinikom witnessed a lively atmosphere as residents gathered in large numbers to honour one of Cameroon’s most symbolic national events. The celebration brought together local authorities, political actors, traditional community members, youths, security forces, and persons living with disabilities in a shared expression of national cohesion and peaceful coexistence.
The highlight of the ceremony was a colourful and well-organized march-past that showcased civic pride and unity among the population. Various groups participated in the parade, displaying discipline and enthusiasm throughout the event. The Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) featured prominently in the march past, reflecting its active presence in local community activities and national celebrations.
Among the notable personalities present was Samuel Loh Yong, who also serves as Section President and Mayor of Njinikom. He joined residents and participants in observing the festivities and reaffirming messages of peace, unity, and national identity.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the celebration was its emphasis on social inclusion and solidarity. Organizers extended support to persons living with disabilities through the distribution of white foldable canes and support sticks to visually impaired individuals. The gesture was widely appreciated and seen as a practical demonstration of compassion and community responsibility toward vulnerable groups.
Beyond the official ceremony, the event also carried a strong communal spirit. Food and refreshments were shared among participants, creating an atmosphere of warmth and togetherness. Residents interacted freely, strengthening social bonds and celebrating not only national unity but also local harmony.
Administrative authorities commended the smooth coordination of the event. Denis Akonjoh, the Divisional Officer of Njinikom, praised the organization of the celebration and described it as peaceful, orderly, and successful.
Security forces maintained a calm but effective presence throughout the day, ensuring that activities unfolded without incident. Their professionalism contributed significantly to the peaceful atmosphere that characterized the celebration.
