CAMTEL General Manager Sponsors Driving Licenses for Bike Riders in Donga Mantung

Commercial motorcycle riders in Donga Mantung Division have received a major boost following the distribution of Category “A” driving licenses during a ceremony held at the Nkambe Grand Stand.

The exercise came after a special driving test session organized for bike riders across the division. During the exercise, more than 150 riders successfully met the required conditions and qualified to receive their licenses.

The initiative was strongly supported by the General Manager of CAMTEL, whose sponsorship helped many riders obtain their legal driving documents. The support was widely appreciated by beneficiaries, many of whom said financial difficulties had prevented them from acquiring licenses in the past.

For many commercial bike riders in Donga Mantung, obtaining a driving license is an important step toward becoming more professional and operating legally within the transport sector.

Speaking during the exercise, officials emphasized that the initiative was not only about issuing licenses but also about improving road safety and encouraging discipline among motorcycle riders.

Participants were sensitized on the importance of respecting traffic regulations, road signs, and safety measures while carrying passengers and goods on the roads.

Road safety messages delivered during the ceremony focused on discouraging dangerous practices such as overspeeding, overloading, reckless riding, and operating motorcycles under the influence of alcohol.

Officials noted that with the increasing use of motorcycles as a major means of transportation in the North West Region, there is a growing need to ensure that riders are properly trained and operate according to transport regulations.

They explained that many road accidents involving commercial motorcycles are often linked to poor knowledge of traffic rules and the absence of valid driving documents.

The sponsorship by the CAMTEL General Manager was therefore described as a timely intervention that will help reduce illegal riding and improve safety on the roads.

Several beneficiaries expressed happiness and gratitude after receiving their licenses.

One rider said the initiative has given many bike riders an opportunity to work with confidence and avoid constant problems with law enforcement officers.

“This is a very important support for us because many riders could not afford the process of getting a license. Today we are happy to receive these documents legally,” one beneficiary said.

Another rider noted that beyond the license itself, the sensitization on road safety was equally important.

“We have learned many things today about respecting road signs and protecting ourselves and passengers on the road,” he added.

Stakeholders present during the exercise praised the initiative and encouraged riders to make proper use of the opportunity by becoming more responsible in their daily activities.

They also called on commercial motorcycle riders to continue respecting traffic laws in order to reduce accidents and improve the image of the transport sector in the division.

Observers believe the initiative reflects increasing efforts by public and private actors to support youth empowerment, improve transport standards, and strengthen road safety across Donga Mantung Division.

The exercise ended with renewed calls for riders to remain disciplined, respect the law, and contribute positively to safer transportation within the region.
