Joseph Dion Ngute, special envoy of Paul Biya, officially welcomed Pope Leo XIV to Cameroon in a ceremony marked by state protocol and deep spiritual significance.

The Pope’s arrival was met with enthusiasm from government officials, religious leaders, and thousands of faithful who gathered to witness the historic moment. Welcoming the Pope on behalf of the Head of State, Prime Minister Dion Ngute conveyed a message of peace, unity, and continued cooperation between Cameroon and the Holy See.

The Pope is coming at a time when the country needs reconciliation, and the visit comes at a time when the country is focused on strengthening peace and national cohesion.

Pope Leo XIV will continue his visit to Bamenda on Thursday, where he is expected to meet internally displaced persons and victims of the socio-political crisis. He will also lead prayers for peace and reconciliation and encourage dialogue among communities.



The Holy Father will later travel to Douala, where he is expected to meet youth groups, civil society actors, and members of the business community. Activities in Douala will also include an open-air mass and a visit to a charity institution.

Throughout his stay, Pope Leo XIV is expected to deliver messages centered on unity, compassion, and solidarity.

The visit is seen as a significant moment in Cameroon’s diplomatic and religious life, reinforcing ties with the Vatican while offering renewed hope to the population.
