City councillors of the Bamenda City Council have adopted the 2025 Administrative, Management, and Stores Accounts of the Bemenda City Council.
Meeting during a session that took place on Monday 13th April 2026, the councillors examined that a total of 3.1 billion was realized in 2025 as the income of the Bamenda City Council, representing 62% of the expected income.
The Council was able to construct a dam and reservoir below the Governor's junction, rehabilitate the stretch from the New Road to Mayor's street through Innovative Primary school to Ecole des champion and above the New Road.
Earth Road from amusement park to Avenir, SHUMAS upstation, from Shufai junction, Njoya street, behind GBHS Bamendakwe to the Bamenda I Council, Mulang streets 2,3,5 and street 1 junction to Ntanka 2 junction and also the road to the Ntaawn health centre.
Some roads within Mankon rural were maintained. Meanwhile, some double surface dressing roads were maintained.
The city council also purchased an excavator and a compactor.
Projects that the City Mayor said were realized thanks to the growing atmosphere of peace that is developing across the municipality.
"They're placed we couldn't access when we took over. For instance, the roads after Mile 6 Mankon towards the rural part, from cow boy junction to Ngomgham, was really bad. But with an improvement in the security situation, these roads have been done. We must not desist from encouraging our population to be peace loving and law abiding." City Mayor Paul Achobong said.
He also added that road works have been done in Nsongwa, Chomba, and Mbatu, which were areas he could not access when he was elected into this function.
The city mayor also acknowledged that significant efforts have been made in ensuring that garbage is not littered around and across the streets of Bamenda. A move which he says will receive a boast in the days with the distribution of tricycles to some quarters in Bamenda.
City Mayor Paul Achobong also said it is his wish that after the visit of the Pope, the Bamenda airport will become and international airport. He called on the population to show maturity, ensuring that the area is peaceful so that the airport could fully go functional
Pope Leo XIV will be visiting Bamenda on Thursday, 16th April 2026.
Speaking about the event, the SDO of Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh said called on the councillors to be ready and ensure that their constituents come out massively to receive the Pope. He cited each area allocated for the various councils.
"Whether you are Christian or Muslim, catholic or pentecostal or a believer in the African traditional religion, we are inviting you to come and receive the blessings from the Pope." The senior said.
He also congratulated the councillors for having a smooth session, the last Administrative and Management accounts before they face the electorates. The SDO called on them to be fully ready ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Bamenda City Council still has some pending projects. The construction of a box culvert at NEW GRA upstation, tbe supply and installation of transformers in Alamatu, Ndzemabeuh, Mulang in Mankon and Close Alosemetin in Bamendakwe.
Enter the Extraordinary session
City councillors of the Bamenda City Council have met in an extraordinary session to adjust the 2026 budget.
Meeting in Bamenda on Monday 13th April 2026, the city Mayor explained that the budget needed a slight adjustment because the council was had previously budgeted the sum of 830 million francs CFA to redo the road leading to the airport.
The road has been rehabilitate by Genie militarie and the expenses born by the state. It was thus incumbent on the city council to redistribute this money to other key areas.
The councillors voted that it should be redistributed to the maintenance of road infrastructure, purchase of equipment, purchase a heavy standby distributor, open new roads and pay for other services rendered to tbe council by volunteers.
