North West Gendarmerie Women Celebrate Strength, Unity Ahead of March 8

In a region that has been faced by insecurity over the last 10 years, women of the National Gendarmerie like their counterparts of the police have earmarked several activities to reduce stress, build a bond of fraternity amongst themselves while communing with civilian women as March 8 approaches.

A series of activities have accompanied the women first with a human investment around the 50th anniversary celebrations monument of the armed forces and later sporting activities.

Col Zang Marius 

As described by Col Zang Marius, Legion Commander for the North West, the women need these activities.

"They needed to mark their name in this great feast. At the level of the National Gendarmerie, a lot of activities have been organized for the women. They have carried out human investment and today we started with a mass for God's protection and guidance and they continued with other sporting activities that brought together women of other sectors." Col Zang said.

Knowing that sports is very important for our health, the Legion Commander, on March 4, organized a football match between the women of the National Gendarmerie and their counterparts of the police. Those of the police won by 2 goals to 1. Sag race, arm wrestling, bottle picking all characterized the activities of the day which were intertwined with beautiful music from around Cameroon.


Visit to the culinary stand

The activities organized in a build up to women's day also saw the exhibition of some items like wine locally brewed in Cameroon with the same taste, texture and complexion like wine imported into the country. 

A section to see the clothing industry with the reshaping and sewing of bed sheets and the last section, the culinary section with dishes from all the 10 regions of Cameroon. 

The stands were visited amongst others by the Wife of the Governor of the North West, Madam Corine Lele, the General, Commander of the 5th Joint Military Region and the General Commander of the 51st Motorized Infantry Brigade, the Regional Delegate of National Security for the North West amongst other high ranking military personnel's in the region.

Mrs Corine Lele, encouraged the women, reminding them that despite the difficulties in the North West Region, they must continue to be strong and courageous. "This ceremony was organized to help them relax, celebrate their worth, and feel appreciated." Mrs Lele said.


As the women of the Defense and Security forces celebrate, they have at the back of their mind that on the later part of April, the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV will be visiting Bamenda. Quizzed  on what is means to the women, Col Zang Marius said "Everyone received the news of the Pope's coming with great joy and satisfaction. We were happy because we will have the chance to see the Pope in Bamenda. Everyone is mobilized even the women of the National Gendarmerie to give this visit the grandeur it deserves." Col Zang said.



Arrival of Generals Bouba And Sadjo at the North West Gendarmerie Legion 

The 2026 edition of the International Women's Day will be observed under the theme; Rights, Justice, Action: For all Women and Girls.

At the North West Gendarmerie Legion, the Day will be celebrated on March 13th.
