In the farming communities of Ntenfenki and Mbelem quarters in Nkwen, smiles and hope returned to many homes as women received improved maize seeds to begin the new planting season.
The gesture came from the Section President of Mezam IC, Che Ndaka Nicolas, who on Thursday, March 19, 2026, donated the seeds to women and mothers, encouraging them to increase food production despite the challenges they face.
Speaking during the distribution, Che Ndaka called on the women to make good use of the improved seeds to double their harvest, improve their income, and better take care of their children.
He praised the women for their resilience, especially in a context marked by insecurity, noting that they have continued to ensure food is available in the community.
“We are here to encourage our mothers who form the backbone of our communities. The farming season is here, and it is our duty to support them so they can have better yields. We know the struggles they face, and we want to put a smile on their faces,” he said.
The donation was received with joy and gratitude.
Speaking on behalf of the women of Mbelem, Rose Tangie, President of the Nkeblesoh Group, described the gesture as rare and timely.
She explained that the improved maize seeds would help farmers increase production this season.
“These seeds are not only a relief but a blessing to us. They will help us double our cultivation. We thank the president for this great gesture and pray that God continues to bless him,” she said, while also appealing for support with fertilizer to boost yields.
Another beneficiary, Regina Frinwe, said the seeds came at a critical moment.
According to her, many farmers had already consumed or sold their previous harvest and had no seeds left for the new season.
“This is what we have been looking for. Last year’s maize is finished, and we had no seeds to plant. This support will help many families this season,” she said.
The initiative also received the backing from the WCPDM Section President for Mezam IC, Nwana Mercy, who encouraged the women to take farming seriously as a way to fight hunger in the subdivision.
She urged them to embrace opportunities that can improve their livelihoods and thanked partners like MIDENO for supporting the initiative.
“We encourage women to go into mass production of food. Where there is an opportunity, follow it. We thank those who have made these improved seeds available and urge the women to use them well,” she said.
As the CPDM Section President left the two quarters, he asked for an inventory to be done on the beneficiaries so that fertilizers can be equitably distributed when the time comes.
Che Ndaka Nicolas called on the women to always count on him because he knows, he can always count on them.
