Councillors Approve Bamenda I 2025 Accounts, Commend Management

Councillors of Bamenda I Council have unanimously approved the 2025 Administrative, Management and Stores Accounts of the council, giving it a 100 percent approval.

The approval followed a detailed review of the accounts, during which councillors commended the council administration led by Mayor Mbigha Njah Felix. They praised the timely presentation of documents, clear recording of transactions, and consistency between the administrative and management accounts.

Financially, the council generated a total revenue of 536 million FCFA in 2025, while expenditure stood at 502.7 million FCFA, leaving a positive balance for the next financial year.

Despite the performance, the finance committee encouraged the council to explore additional revenue sources to strengthen its financial capacity.

Responding, Mayor Mbigha Njah Felix announced that a council quarry will soon become operational. Negotiations with their Canadian partners have reached an execution point. This is expected to boost internally generated revenue. He also called on councillors to promote the use of the Bamenda I Municipal Stadium, which became operational in 2025 and serves both as a recreational facility and a source of income for the council.

On development achievements, the council recorded significant progress in 2025. These include the provision of office equipment and computers to the Women’s Empowerment Centre, as well as the construction of a library at the literacy centre in Atougoulah.

Road infrastructure also saw improvements, with the opening of roads linking Ntahmuleh Junction to Ntahbi Junction up to Alahji Farm, and from Ntahbi Junction to Mubang. Additionally, a 600-metre stretch of road from George Mungu to Apostolic Church was constructed.

Several drainage structures were also executed, including the construction and reinforcement of concrete box culverts linking Atougoulah and Ntahmafe II, Nkineu and Njengang quarters, and a 1000 diameter culvert at Ntahfubuh.

In the health sector, an integrated health centre was constructed at Menka Quarter, while a solar-powered borehole was installed at the Bamenda I Council market and park to improve access to water.

The Mayor also urged councillors and quarter heads to ensure proper opening of gutters during the rainy season to prevent water from damaging roads rehabilitated during the dry season.

On the ongoing population census, he called on councillors to support field workers to ensure full participation, noting that population figures influence the allocation of council funds. He added that Bamenda I currently receives the least allocation in the region.

The supervisory authority, the Senior Divisional Officer for Mezam commended the councillors for their maturity during deliberations. He also informed them that a bill has been tabled at the National Assembly for the extension of their mandates.

He encouraged councillors to return to their communities and inform the population about the council’s achievements, stressing that significant work has been done.

The SDO further called for strong mobilisation ahead of the Pope’s expected visit to Bamenda. In this regard, the council has introduced a weekly clean-up exercise every Thursday.

The 2025 Administrative, Management and Stores Accounts were adopted in Bamenda on Monday, March 30, 2026.
