Councillors of Bafut Council have adopted the 2025 Administrative, Management, and Stores Accounts of the council.

Meeting at the council premises in Bafut, the councillors carefully examined the accounts and gave a satisfactory assessment of the council executive for its management of activities during the year under review.

With an initial budget of 1.3 billion FCFA, the council was able to mobilize 571.9 million FCFA as revenue, reflecting efforts made despite the challenging context.

Explaining how the funds were used, the Mayor, Ngwakongoh Lawrence, stated that the council focused on improving basic social services. These included the construction of classrooms in Buwe Bukari and Mantaa, the building of a health center in Nchum, road opening, provision of water schemes, and youth empowerment initiatives.

Out of the total revenue, 570.9 million FCFA was spent on various development projects and council operations.

Concerned about the council’s revenue performance, councillors proposed the effective collection of levies on sand mining, especially as calm gradually returns to the subdivision. Supporting this move, the Divisional Officer of Bafut, Fokou Andelys, alongside the Brigade Commander, assured the council of their support in improving revenue generation and reducing dependence on state subventions.

Notably, this session marks only the second time in six years that the council has met in Bafut. On the question of returning to its main premises at Njinteh, Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence indicated that the council is ready to return but noted that the building requires urgent rehabilitation and equipping, which is expected to begin soon.
