North West Regional Delegate of Penitentiary Administration Elevated to rank of Administrator General of Prisons


Asaah-Ngu Mbah Walter receives congratulations from North West Governor 


The North West Regional Delegate of Penitentiary Administration, Asaah-Ngu Mbah Walter has been promoted to the rank of Administrator General of Prisons.

Promoted by an order of the Secretary General at the Prime Minister's office signed on the 10th December 2025, Asaah-Ngu moved to his new grade after spending 17 years into the prisons administration sector in Cameroon.

To confer the new epaullet to the senior penitentiary administrator was the Governor of the North West Region, Lele Lafrique Tchoffo Deben Adolphe.

The brief but significant ceremony held at the courtyard of the Bamenda Central Prison on Thursday 12th February 2026, saw him being adorned with his new rank by the Governor to the amusement of family members, members of the penitentiary family as well senior members of the defense and security forces led by Brigadier General Bouba Dobekereo, Commander of the 5th Joint Military Region.


In reaction, Administrator General of Prisons, Asaah-Ngu Mbah Walter said; "it is a great honour to attain this rank. It is a mark of confidence bestowed on me by my hierarchy and it comes with an enormous challenge. It is a call for more engagement and hard work to do better for the prisons system in Cameroon. I am overwhelmed."

To his junior colleagues, he said " hard work pays."

Before his promotion in Bamenda where he is both the Regional delegate of Penitentiary Administration and the Supretendant in charge of the Bamenda Central Prison, Asaah-Ngu Mbah Walter previously served as support staff at the Ebolowa Central Prison, Supretendant in charge of the Dschang and Kumba Principal prisons, subdirector in charge of Penitentiary personnel at the Ministry of Justice. He was appointed Regional Delegate to the North West in 2023.




The highly skilled and professional prisons administrator has a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Dschang, a Maitrise in Economics from the same University.

Still from the University of Dschang, he holds a Master's Degree in Political science others in international criminal law and international humanitarian law. 

He was admitted to the National School for Penitentiary Administration, ENAP Buea in 2008 and graduated in 2010 with a diploma in prisons administration.

He was born on the 15th July 1983 in Nkongsamba.
