Rev Paul Achobong, General overseer of Reformed Overcomers Chapel

The General Overseer of the Reformed Overcomers Chapel and City Mayor of Bamenda, Rev. Paul Achobong, has expressed gratitude to God and to President Paul Biya following the official authorization granted to his Christian movement.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday, January 25, 2026, Rev. Achobong described the authorization as divine intervention.

“This is the Lord’s doing. We praise God for using President Paul Biya to grant us this authorization. We have been praying for him, and we bless God for using him to authorize our worship center,” he said.

The Reformed Overcomers Chapel was authorized by Decree No. 2026/016 of January 23, 2026, which grants the church legal status and the right to operate across Cameroon, with its headquarters in Bamenda.

According to church officials, the authorization also allows the institution to establish social services such as schools and hospitals. The General Overseer indicated that further details on these plans will be officially communicated during a special church service scheduled for Sunday, January 31, 2026.

Reacting to the news, a student pastor of the church, Annatou Achap Abrahams, expressed deep emotion and gratitude.

“I was overwhelmed. Our General Overseer always told us that there is nothing you ask from God that He will not give. We had faith that our papers would be signed because we know the God we serve. We are Overcomers, and we are very happy,” she said.

The Reformed Overcomers Chapel was authorized alongside several other churches, including Winners Chapel International.

Observers note that this marks the first time in over 25 years that President Paul Biya has signed decrees authorizing the creation and legal functioning of new churches in Cameroon.
