NW Governor Calls for Agricultural Revival at 2025 North-West Agro-Pastoral Show

The  Governor of the North-West Region, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, has officially launched the 2025 North-West Regional Agro-Pastoral Show and Trade Fair in Bamenda, calling for a renewed focus on agriculture as the foundation of the region’s economy.

Presiding over the opening ceremony, Governor Lele described the annual show as a strategic platform that brings together farmers, producers, development partners, and policymakers to exchange ideas, build partnerships, and strengthen food supply, especially during the festive season. He praised farmers who travelled from across the region despite prevailing challenges, commending their resilience and commitment.

The Governor acknowledged remarks raised by the professional Producers’ Organization (PLANOPAC), assuring stakeholders that many of the issues highlighted were already being addressed, while others would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.

Reflecting on the region’s past, Governor Lele Lafrique recalled that the North-West was one among Cameroon’s most food-secure regions. He urged stakeholders to work toward restoring this status by repositioning the region as a food basket and a leader in organic farming and import substitution, in line with the National Development Strategy 2020–2030.

He highlighted government efforts through the Integrated Agro-Pastoral and Fisheries Import Substitution Plan (PIISAH) and renewed investments in UNVDA Ndop and MIDENO, calling on managers to use resources effectively to boost production.

With students of the National Cooperative College 

North West Governor also commended the impact of projects such as PULCCA and the Rice Value Chain Development Project (RVCDP), which have contributed to improved agricultural and livestock production. With PULCCA’s first phase ending in 2025, he called for efforts to secure a second phase to sustain gains in rural communities.






In his welcome address, Bamenda City Mayor Paul Achombong described the show as a key opportunity for farmers to showcase the region’s agro-pastoral potential and connect with markets. 

The Regional Delegate of Agriculture for the North West, Ndueh Joh Ndimuangu, acknowledged government support and revealed that agricultural production in the region recorded a 15 percent increase compared to the five-year average.

Gains which North West Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique reiterated could only be achieved through peace and security that remains essential for development and urged communities to cooperate with security forces. 

He concluded by congratulating exhibitors, encouraging prize winners to do more to improve the food self sufficiency of the North West.
