Sons and daughters of Nkwen have presented a brand-new vehicle to their traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty Fon Azehfor III.
The vehicle—a 70th Anniversary Toyota Land Cruiser purchased from Ndjamena, Chad, at a total cost of 27 million FCFA, was officially handed during a ceremony attended by administrative authorities, traditional leaders, and members of the Nkwen community.
Speaking on behalf of the Divisional Officer for Bamenda III, Cham Pascal, Chief of Administrative and Social Affairs, welcomed the gesture, describing it as a clear sign of harmony and collective responsibility within Nkwen.
“This gesture shows that the Nkwen community is living as one. We are particularly pleased with the spirit of collaboration the Fon has consistently demonstrated with the administration,” Cham Pascal said.
The coordination of the project was placed under the Nkwenmbere Administrative council, an organ charged with the teaching of the Nkwen culture.
It's chairperson, Senior Tantoh Azong Wara Andrew, emphasized that the donation was well coordinated and it goes beyond material value.
“This is not merely a vehicle. It is a powerful symbol of what the people of Nkwen can achieve when they stand together,” he said.
He explained that the initiative was driven by contributions from all segments of the community—elders, youths, families, and the diaspora, each contribution carrying the same meaning: love for the Fon and pride in the Nkwen identity.
“Every contribution carried equal weight. When Nkwen speaks with one voice and acts with one heart, there is nothing we cannot accomplish,” Azong Wara added.

ccording to Senior Tantoh Azong Wara Andrew, the idea was born by Tangkeh Thomas, a member of the Nkwen Forum, who observed that the Fon was moving around in a vehicle that did not reflect the dignity of his office. He shared the concern within the forum, after which Senior Tantoh Azong Wara embraced the proposal and helped mobilize support across the community, leading to the successful realization of the project.

In his appreciation message, Fon Azehfor III thanked the sons and daughters of Nkwen for what he described as a remarkable show of love and unity.
“I want to thank the sons and daughters of Nkwen. I wish to say that history is repeating itself. In the days of my father they bought him a Mercedes 280 and it was one of the latest cars at the time. This time they have bought for me a Land Cruiser 70th anniversary and I really appreciate it. It all started like a joke.
"The community has been doing a lot in terms of water supply, education, road infrastructure and many others. Despite the difficulties we are facing, they donated their money. This is a spirit of unity and development. This is how our children should promote community welfare. The car is not for me my personal pleasure. It is for community service. It will be used according to the duties of the community." HRM Fon Azehfor III said.
The village will now focus on other development challenges like educating young people in technical and vocational colleges.
