The Member of Parliament for the Bafut/Tubah Constituency, Hon. Agho Oliver, has distributed bags of rice to the vulnerable population and party supporters across the two subdivisions that make up his constituency.

The distribution exercise was carried out in Bafut on Friday, December 19, 2025 and Tubah on Saturday 20th December 2025.

The initiative was first to express gratitude to those who came out massively to vote for the CPDM at the just concluded Presidential Elections while other targeted groups like internally displaced persons (IDPs), widows, single mothers, and low-income earners constituted the second group of beneficiaries.

Speaking during the exercise in Bafut, the Mayor of Bafut Council and CPDM Section President for Mezam IV, Ngwakongoh Lawrence, described the initiative as timely and deeply meaningful. He noted that insecurity in the municipality has forced many farmers to abandon their farms,  and getting a sustainable livelihood in a different environment is difficult. This has left many families uncertain about how they would celebrate the Christmas season.

“This is a period when many people were wondering how they would celebrate Christmas, especially IDPs and vulnerable families,” the mayor said. “God has used the Honourable Member of Parliament to bring relief. This rice means that a child will have a plate of food on Christmas Day.”

The mayor prayed for continued blessings upon the MP and encouraged the continuation of such community-centered initiatives.

Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation, describing the donation as a source of relief and renewed hope. Brenda Ichu, a beneficiary in Bafut, said that high market prices, poor farm-to-market roads, and the effects of the crisis have made daily survival increasingly difficult.

“Things are very expensive in the market, and feeding has not been easy,” she said. “This rice will go a long way in helping families like mine.”

Another beneficiary, speaking in French, described Hon. Agho Oliver as a dynamic and compassionate parliamentarian who understands the suffering of his people, pledging continued support for his leadership.

In Tubah Subdivision, beneficiaries echoed similar sentiments. Benedict Begheni said the rice would help sustain his family through the Christmas and New Year celebrations. “My children will eat, and I am very happy,” he said, calling on fellow beneficiaries to share with others in need.

DO of Tubah

The Divisional Officer for Tubah Subdivision, Massango Metougue Narcisse, praised the initiative, describing it as a practical translation of national policies on food sufficiency and security. He noted that the gesture would enable vulnerable families to celebrate the festive season with dignity despite fluctuating market prices.

One of the members of the Regional Assembly from Tubah, Hon. Tibatim Cyprain, also commended the MP for maintaining close ties with his electorate after elections. He described the initiative as a rare but commendable gesture of accountability and gratitude.

Widows and single mothers were among the most vocal in expressing gratitude. Comfort Nfor, a single mother in Bafut, described the donation as a welcome surprise, while Veronica Ngelo, a widow in Tubah, said the rice would sustain her household for months and allow her to support others.

A total of 120 bags of  rice (50kg) were distributed in Bafut while 200 bags were distributed in Tubah.

Hon Agho Oliver speaking to those who came to collect called on the beneficiaries not to relent in their efforts of supporting him, the ideas he stands for and the political party he represents, the CPDM.

The MP has been people-focused since his election to the National Assembly in February 2020.
