December 23 has been chosen by the City Mayor of Bamenda as a day for social service and human investment within the city of Bamenda.
Denizens are expected to come out massively and clean the streets. The City Mayor of Bemenda, Achombong Tambeng Paul has promised to put trucks at the disposal of the various quarters to quickly evacuate the waste.
This announcement was made as civil society actors, development stakeholders and councillors gathered at the Bamenda City Council, Wednesday 10th December 2025, for the 2026 budget orientation debate.
The debate produced four key areas of interest:
✓ roads
✓ Hygiene and sanitation
✓ food self sufficiency
✓ water and energy
Speaking at the session, the City Mayor said these key areas will guide the development of the city in 2026 and will greatly advance the living standards of the inhabitants of Bemenda.
"We need to improve on our agricultural output. That is why we now collect garbage that has been properly sorted. One truck will carry biodegradable waste and another will carry non-biodegradable waste. For the biodegradable waste we will use it as manure in our farms and gardens and improve the agricultural productivity of the North West Region." The city Mayor said.
He went further to issue a ban on the dumping of waste at the middle of the road at the Bamenda Commercial Avenue.
"Anyone caught dumping garbage on the island built at the commercial avenue will pay a fine of 25.000 Francs. Trucks will pass everyday from 9am to collect waste."
The commercial avenue had become a dump site for traders and economic operators around the area to the total disbelief of those who live in the city.
The City Mayor was also commended for insisting on the 30 meter wide Bamenda Urban crossing which is currently under construction. Likewise progress is being made with the construction of the C2D roads. The City Mayor also announced that the Hospital roundabout-Mile 8- Airport road will become a priority in 2026.
With projects proposed from the community, the city will budget for the priority projects during its budget session which will be convened soon.
