41 conscripts from the National Civic service Agency for participation in Development have been handed scholarships.

The scholarships were given to them in a ceremony held on Tuesday 23rd December 2025 at the auditorium of the North West Regional Assembly.

Speaking at the event, the Regional President of the Cameroon National Youth Council for the North West, Mekom Samuel Taleh, said the scholarships came thanks to the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education.

"Every year conscripts are trained at GTHS Bamenda. This year, I went to pay them a visit and many of them said they have difficulties going back to school. They expressed the need that we look for a means for them. I quickly wrote to the National President of the CNYC, Fadimatou Iyawa and the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education. I am very grateful that a response came and we are putting smiles on their faces today." Mekom Samuel said.

A total of 1.7 million Francs was distributed to the conscripts with those in the University backing home 58,000 Francs while those in secondary schools went home with 35,000 Francs. They also left with a promise.

"Those who will do well should be assured of our continuous support till they leave the university." Mekom Samuel said.

The process of selecting the 41 was rigorous as a total of 150 applications were made and only the most vulnerable were selected.

Conscripts

A total of 150 conscripts are trained each year and they fall between the ages of 17-21. The North West Region has trained more than 1,500 conscripts in the recent past.

They're trained in entrepreneurship, Moral and Civic Education, First aid, career counseling and Development, goal setting and associative life.

Amendi Blessing

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Amendi Blessing said it was a difficult start to the school year.

"Some of us have been going to school but we had not paid fees. This is a great relief. We are even happier because the option to pay fees at the University was extended to January. We want to thank the Cameroon National Youth Council and we promise to do our best in school."

Speaking at the event, the representative of the Regional Delegate of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mbigha Geraldine cautioned the youths to be exemplary and to put the scholarship into good use.

CNYC Receives award

The occasion also served as an opportunity for the Cameroon National Youth Council to receive its award of Excellence from the North West Regional Assembly for constructive collaboration and partnership with the Assembly.

The follow-up on academic performance of the 41 beneficiaries will follow thereafter.
