The City Mayor of Bamenda, Achobong Tambeng Paul, of the Bamenda City Council has been honored by the State of Cameroon with the Rank of Officer of the Cameroon order of Valour.
This was during the 53rd National day celebrations at the Bamenda commercial Avenue Grand Stand on Tuesday May 20th in Bamenda.
This prestigious recognition acknowledges his outstanding contributions to the development of the city of Bamenda.
As a Civil Engineer and pioneer Mayor to the City Council duly elected on February 25th, 2020, Mayor Achobong has made significant strides in developing the capital city of the North West. Some of his notable achievements include;
- Improving garbage management in the city. Through this, he was able to launch a clean city contest for councils within the Bamenda city.
- Maintaining and opening several kilometers of tarred and earth roads. Some of these roads include the tarring of the Welcome to Bamenda- Tradex road.
- paving and tarring of roads around the Magistrate court, admiralty to Elections Cameroon.
- Construction of bridges, notably the Mile 4 Bridge and the La Chance bridge in small Mankon
- Constructed a recreational sporting facility on Upstation Hill with a long stepway for sporters
- Fostering community inclusion in project ownership and management through collaboration with quarter heads
- Overseeing the execution and completion of the Bamenda Liquid Petroleum Gas filling center
Mayor Paul Achobong urged the city dwellers to embrace peace for greater achievements within the Bamenda city. " I am happy for this honour that the state has given me. Its all thanks to the collaboration I get from the city dwellers within the Municipality but I also think alot more would have been archived if everyone was involved in the development process of this city through the efforts of the city council. Waste management had been a challenge with seperatist fighters attacking at dump sites, attacks during construction works which have all created fear even for companies that were will to execute jobs and contracts for the city council. I seize this opportunity to call on parents to educate their child on the advantages of peace and what it brings to the people" Paul Achobong told the Observer
This decoration is a testament to Mayor Achobong's dedication to public service delivery and his commitment to improving the lives of Bamenda's denizens.
